Fabric Roses
Fabric
Roses can be made from very tiny to quite large. The fabric choice
and grain line affects the look of the roses. Crisp fabrics on the
straight grain produce roses with body, while soft fabrics cut on
the bias produce drapery roses. Decorator fabrics produce large
ornate roses. You may wish to produce a sample rose before cutting
a large number
Materials Needed
* 1/3 to 1 yard fashion
fabric
* Thread
* Hand needle
Cutting Instructions
1. Pull thread to straighten
grain; -or- Fold fabric on a 45 degree angle to determine bias.
Crease along this line.
2. Cut strips the desired width and length. Small 1" x 12"
Medium 2.5" x 34" Large 7" x 72" You may cut
any size, these proportions are merely suggested starting points.
Instructions
1. Fold the strip in half lengthwise. Baste the
raw edges together.

2. Gather the long edges. Pull the threads up
to half the original length. The fabric will naturally begin to
curve.

3. Begin the center of the rose by folding down
one end of the strip in a 45° angle and tack. The rose is formed
by hand tacking the gathered edge in a spiral formation.

4. Roll strip around and tack again. Continue
to roll and tack until there is approximately 3" left.

5. Fold the remaining end down at a 45 degree
angle and tie off the base. It will be fairly large.

6. If desired, clean finish the back. Cut a circle
the diameter of the strip used. Turn under the raw edges of the
circle as you stitch it to the base of the rose.

Voila!
